At The Friends, we believe our school is best placed to decide how the funds we raise are used. They have the most complete picture of other support and grants available, helping to ensure every pound we raise is spent where it’s needed most.

Funding requests are discussed and formally voted on during meetings that are open to everyone in the school community. The results of these votes are recorded in the meeting minutes, which are published on this site for transparency.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Purchases of goods and services required to run fundraising events are made directly by The Friends

Purchases of goods and services for the benefit of the school may be made direct by The Friends but are also often made by the school, who then invoice the friends accordingly.

  • Spending requests in any given period do not match the fundraising we manage to achieve in the same period because spending needs can vary from one period to another - perhaps we are saving up for something that requires more funds than are available at a point in time.

  • We do hold a minimum level of funds in reserve at any one approximately equal to the average amount raised annually over the last five years and can go as low as £8,00 at any one time. This is to accommodate any extraordinary or urgent funding requests that may come from the school and ensure that The Friends can provide continuity of support for the school during a period of low fundraising due to a lack of volunteering support, for example.

Deficits and surpluses from year to year are reported in our annual filings on the Charities Commission website.
