KS1 Smarties Challenge

We are excited to invite KS1 children to join our first fundraiser of the year – our annual ‘Smarties Challenge’!

For those families who haven’t done it before or for others that would like a reminder:

  • A tube of Smarties has been sent home with your child on Friday, October 16th for the children to enjoy.

  • We ask that once the Smarties are gone, you keep the tube and fill it with any loose change over the next month. The idea is that every time your child does something helpful (such as making the bed, emptying the dishwasher, putting out the recycling or helping with tidying), a coin goes into the Smarties tube until it is full.

  • 20p coins in particular fit quite nicely, but we will never turn down the odd £1 coin in return for your children completing a very special task! That said, we know times are difficult so please don’t worry if you are unable to support the challenge or fill the whole tube, we would still like the children to enjoy their treat.

Don’t have enough coins lying around to fill the tubes?

Once you are satsified that your child has earned their smarties, if you can’t put your hands on enough coins to meet their helpfulness… you can make a debit or credit card donation to The Friends via our JustGiving page… it takes just 2 minutes and will also benefit from GiftAid too!

To keep track of all the jobs your child is doing, so you can tally them all up to make one single payment at the end, we’ve designed a Smarties Challenge - My Helpful Jobs List for you to print at home and use :-)

These are some things that children had done in previous years to earn their coins:

  1. Make the bed in the mornings

  2. Brush teeth without reminders

  3. Put dirty clothes in the laundry basket

  4. Set the table for meals

  5. Help pack their school bag

  6. Empty or help load the dishwasher

  7. Wipe down the table after meals

  8. Dust low surfaces (skirting boards, shelves)

  9. Water indoor plants

  10. Match socks and fold small laundry items

  11. Put recycling in the correct bin

  12. Take laundry to the washing machine

  13. Tidy away toys/books after playing

  14. Carry light shopping bags inside

  15. Help prepare simple snacks (fruit, sandwiches)

  16. Help wash the car (with a bucket & sponge)

  17. Assist in baking (mixing, pouring, decorating)

  18. Vacuum a room

Please return the filled tubes to your child’s class teacher no later than 6th November 2026

Participating in this fundraising activity is a WIN-WIN – supporting fundraising directly into your child’s class and the children learning some early responsibilities at the same time!

Good luck to all and thank you for your support!
